Christian Comics

In between client projects I do a webcomic called Sketchbook Silliness. It’s a way for me to express my creativity and just mess around. The whole thing is sort of an experiment with my comics ranging from the silly to the serious to the spiritual. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a few go viral. One recently made the front page of Reddit, another made most viral on Imgur, and I’ve had two comics get over one million views on TikTok (this one and this one).

You may have noticed that the second of those TikTok comics was about my Christian faith. A few days ago I posted another comic about my faith that has also been doing pretty well. It got 35 retweets on Twitter (which is a lot for me) and has been steadily passed around on Facebook with over 2,300 shares and counting).

Fact is, my Christian comics (on average) do as well or better than my other comics. Many of my regular comics have flopped, whereas most of my religious comics have done fair-to-well in terms of likes/comments/shares. They are few and far between but overall they are well-received.

So, I’ve decided to gather them all into one place. If anyone is interested in reading all of my Christian comics at once you can find them here. My hope is that they might be something there that will be a blessing to someone.

NEW! Print of one of my most popular webcomics

“The Great Exchange” is one of my most popular and widely shared webcomics. Several people have asked for prints so I decided to pull the trigger and get some made. I just picked them up from the printer and I’m very happy with how they turned out!

Good Friday

Today is Good Friday, the day we remember Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. It was a bad day for Him but a very good day for us!

In between client projects I do cartoons that I post as a webcomic called Sketchbook Silliness. Most are just dumb jokes but every once in a while I’ll try to draw something thoughtful, often relating to my Christian faith. Some of them wind up being my most popular and widely-shared cartoons. So, in honor of Good Friday/Easter I thought I’d share three of them.

Comic: Atheist Logic

This is a personal piece I did in between some client work and my regular webcomics. One of the most important questions of life is, “Is there a God?”. This is my take.

I have nothing against atheists, and I certainly don’t think I’m any smarter or better than them. I just don’t see the logic.

My Annual Good Friday Post

Today is Good Friday. As a Christian this is one of the most important days of the year for me, the day we pause to commemorate the torture, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ. You may wonder, why would a day like that be called “good?”

Because even though it was a terrible day for Jesus it was a very good day for you and me. How’s that, you ask? Over the course of my career I’ve had the privilege to work on several projects that help explain:

Are You A Good Person? Cartoon

First, here’s an 8-page cartoon Gospel tract I illustrated a few years ago for the ministry of Living Waters. Several million copies have been printed in English and it has been translated into over twenty languages. You can download it for free or purchase printed copies from Living Waters.

Based on the tract’s success, Living Waters also hired me to produce an animated version, which I supervised with the help of two terrific animators (Michael Foster and Chance Dodd). If you like it you can download a free HD version to use however you’d like.

Finally, VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer recently completed a DVD series called “What’s In The Bible?”. I had the privilege of doing some animation and character design work on a few episodes.

Today is Good Friday. As a Christian this is one of the most important days of the year for me, the day we pause to commemorate the torture, crucifixion, and death of Jesus Christ. Some of you my wonder, why on earth would a day like that be called “good?”
