The folks at OnAnimation.com are having a giveaway. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter and win a copy of the Pose Drawing Sparkbook including the physical book, ebook, and a bookmark printed with tips from the book. Ends Friday, November 15.
An Early Review Of The Pose Drawing Sparkbook
I’ve started sending out a few early review copies of the Pose Drawing Sparkbook while I wait for the big shipment to arrive from the printer. The first review has made its way online, via Ron Doucet at FloobyNooby. I’m being very careful to ask people for honest reviews, good or bad. Fortunately Ron likes it.
Book Launch and Workshop at CTN-X
It’s almost here! The official book launch for the Pose Drawing Sparkbook will happen at the CTN Animation Expo in Burbank, November 15-17. My wife Jennie will be joining me at table XB06, which will be out in the tent area right across from the big live demo area in the middle of the tent. Blue Sky and Sony Animation will also be under the tent so I’ll be in very good company. Here’s my location on the floor plan (click to enlarge):
If you are one of the hundreds of people who have already pre-ordered a copy of the physical book, either through Kickstarter or from my studio store, you can pick up your copy from my table at the Expo. Otherwise, as soon as I get back from the Expo we’ll start mailing out orders.
If you ordered an ebook version (either the basic or expanded) we will send you a download link on or before November 15.
I think this book has the potential to be a terrific tool to help a lot of artists put more life and personality into their drawings. Haven’t ordered a copy yet? You can read a few excerpts and place an order here.
Workshop: Be Your Own Boss (Freelancing Tips And Tricks)
For the third year in a row I’ll also be giving my presentation on freelancing and talking about the business side of being an artist. I’ll be speaking on Saturday, November 16 at 4:00pm. Unfortunately registration for my workshop is full but if you are unable to attend shoot me an email and I’ll send you a free PDF containing my notes from the talk.
Online registration for CTNX closes on Friday, November 8. Grab your tickets here.
Pose Drawing Sparkbook: Bookmarks, PDFs Added
If you’d like to order an ebook version of the Pose Drawing Sparkbook, I’ve now added a PDF option! You can also order bookmarks printed on the front and back with drawing tips from the book.
My upcoming book, the Pose Drawing Sparkbook, will officially launch at the CTN Animation Expo (November 15-17, 2013). If you’ve already ordered a copy, either through my Kickstarter campaign or on my Sparkbook store just stop by my table at the Expo and pick up your copy. Otherwise, as soon as I get back from the trip I’ll start mailing out pre-orders.
I’m having bookmarks printed containing drawing and acting tips from the book. These are sturdy 2 in. x 6 in. bookmarks, printed in full color on the front and back. Everyone who ordered a physical copy of the Sparkbook through my Kickstarter campaign will automatically get one when the orders are filled. The rest of you can pre-order them from my Sparkbook store.
The Sparkbook is available both as a physical book and as an ebook. I had resisted making the ebook available as a PDF, limiting the choices to Kindle, Nook, and iBooks. After getting feedback from my backers and doing some more research, I’ve changed my mind and decided to make a PDF option after all. If you have already placed a pre-order and would like to change it to a PDF, just contact me and let me know.
Hundreds of people have pre-ordered the Pose Drawing Sparkbook, and I can’t wait to ship them out. See you at the Expo!
Pose Drawing Sparkbook Is At The Printer!
Yesterday the FedEx man showed up at my door with my proof copy of the Pose Drawing Sparkbook! That’s right, the book is finished and at the printer. Since my successful Kickstarter campaign ended back in August I’ve been burning gallons of midnight oil trying to make this book as great as I possibly can. Now it’s finally a reality and I can hardly believe it. I am *SO* grateful to the hundreds of Kickstarter backers who helped make all of this possible.
Here’s a photo of one of the “spark” exercises. There are 100 of these in the book, each one custom-designed to give you broad possibilities to draw characters that act, emote, and entertain.
There’s also over 32 pages of instructional content to help you focus on acting and personality as you draw. In the back of the book are hundreds of bonus sketchbook ideas.
The Pose Drawing Sparkbook is 250 pages, measuring 7″x10″ and printed on real sketchbook paper. You can pre-order the physical book or the ebook version here. I’ll be launching the book next month at the CTN Animation Expo in Burbank and will start fulfilling orders as soon as I get back from the conference.
Emmy Winning Character Designer Dan Haskett Writes Foreword to Pose Drawing Sparkbook
I’m proud to announce that Emmy-winning character designer Dan Haskett has written the Foreword to the Pose Drawing Sparkbook.
Dan is an amazing character designer, animator, and all-around great guy. He’s worked on everything from Sesame Street to Beauty and the Beast to Toy Story to The Simpsons, where he won an Emmy for his work converting Matt Groening’s rough designs into an animation-friendly format.
I consider Dan a friend and I have tremendous admiration for him both as an artist and as a person. I’m both humbled and grateful that he has so generously given his support for the Pose Drawing Sparkbook. To learn more about Dan, here’s an interview I did with him on my blog back in 2010.
The book is almost finished and will be going to press soon. The official launch will be at at the CTN Animation Expo in November, but you can pre-order yours now.
