Free Download: Inktober Sketchbook Ideas

inktober

It’s that time of year again. The leaves are turning color, the air is getting chilly, and artists everywhere are getting ready for Inktober! If you need some Inktober drawing ideas, I’m once again offering a free PDF download of 31 drawing prompts based on the Pose Drawing Sparkbook. About 2/3 of the list is directly from the book, the rest are new (as of last year anyway). As with everything in the book they are specifically designed to help you practice making your drawings more expressive and entertaining:

Unfortunately physical copies of the Pose Drawing Sparkbook are sold out but the PDF/ebook version is still available in my studio store. It’s cheaper, easy to carry around, and works as a companion to any normal sketchbook. NOTE: I still get requests for physical copies so I’m thinking of doing a second printing if there’s enough interest. If that’s something you’d like to see, please shoot me an email and let me know.

In the mean time, enjoy this free download and please share it with others. Just post this link on your favorite social media: http://bit.ly/1tnlfqY

Happy drawing!

Sketchbook Update: American Eagle

110915-AmericanEagle-v2-800pxLike many Americans I’m overweight. I’ve been dieting and have lost ten pounds so far but still have a long way to go. It’s funny how dieting has led me to think about food and food issues even more than normal. We’ve become a nation of fatties which is both encouraging (“At least I’m not alone in this struggle”) and discouraging (“There’s so much food and so few role models”). Anyway, for some reason my subconscious cooked up this image during a recent doodle session. Tonight I colored it using Kyle Webster’s “Wet and Wild” watercolor brush which I’m really starting to like.

Sketchbook Update: Inktober 2015, Day 31

Hipster Frankenstein

I squeaked in one last ‪#‎Inktober‬ drawing just under the wire. I drew this late Halloween night after putting the kids to bed and sugaring myself up on some leftover candy.

I managed to do 23 drawings during Inktober. Not bad considering my busy freelance schedule. Plus I got to experiment with a few brushes and styles and stretch my humor muscles a little. I’m hoping I can keep being more active in my sketchbook as the holiday season approaches. Looking forward to Inktober 2016!

Today is Back To The Future Day! Here’s a tonal study of my three favorite side characters from the entire trilogy. It feels tight and over-rendered to me, but hey, if you can’t make mistakes in your sketchbook when can you?
