Poster and Website Art for Ironsite

Ironsite is a company that builds wearable tech for the construction industry. They make a special video camera that straps onto safety helmets and records the worker’s activities as they build. After each shift the footage is uploaded and analyzed, looking for ways to improve safety and make things more efficient.

The people at Ironsite wanted to make a simple poster that would explain to the workers how to properly charge and use their cameras. Understandably the workers themselves are not crazy about having everything they do being recorded. (Which I totally get. I don’t think I’d enjoy wearing a camera all day that recorded my every move.) To help counter this, Ironsite thought illustrating the poster in a cartoony style might make it all feel friendlier and less officious. Personally I can see both sides of the argument. I think data gathering is a tool that can be used for good or for evil. The data itself is neutral, it’s all about who controls it and how they use it. I choose to trust that the video footage is only being used to look for ways to make things safer and more efficient, nothing more.

They liked my poster art enough to carry the same style over to their website. I did a few spot illustrations and started working on some animation for the website, until for reasons unknown to me the website was put on hold and I was asked to stop working. I’m told it had nothing to do with me, but the website was going in a different direction. However the client did pay me for work completed and gave me permission to publicly share the work I did.

Here’s some spot art I did for the website:
