Illustrator Brad Holland has passed away. It seemed like his work was everywhere in the 90’s. He was the hot, fashionable illustrator to hire for editorial work and he’s a good example of the type of conceptual art that AI simply cannot emulate. AI uses algorithms to find patterns and copy them, whereas a true creative like Holland strives to say something you’ve heard before in a way that is fresh and new. Holland could communicate abstract concepts through images that were simple, clever, beautiful, and appealingly wonky. That’s really hard. His style may no longer be trendy but I will always admire his work. A true artist.
